Back To Meaning

“Life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek those answers that continues to give meaning to life. You can spend your life wallowing in despair, wondering why you were the one who was led towards the road strewn with pain, or you can be grateful that you are strong enough to survive it.”
― J.D. Stroubes

Over the years, one question that has troubled my mind is the blatant deviation from meaning across all human endeavors. It saddens me to see that the wrong thing is now justified to be the right thing and defending the right thing now is actually seen as speaking for the wrong thing, and there’s this ”deafening silence” about this trend. What is also evident is the unrepentant use of what is not for what is,as a matter of fact what we see today is a people who have fallen under the pressure of responsibility and commitment,a leadership vacuum so evident that Meaning is now a lost treasure in the development of a nation most evident in black Africa.

I believe strongly that Africa’s solution lies in our reach for meaning, value and purpose. It’s a lost art that must be revived if we to leave our present state of development. It’s time to move from the norm to something beyond us.The crises we’re facing are red flags warning us that the system we’re all counting on is headed for collapse. One major area where i think we really to go back to meaning is Leadership Integrity.

I’ve watched major events roll out day to day, from the Oga at the Top saga to the state pardon granted to Corrupt Officials and I’ve watched with great silence and utter dismay the path we are following as a nation. It seems to me that everything around us a a nation begs for answers, and there’s a good chance that the same questions running through my mind also flows through yours.

Where do we stand as nation if we keep treating people better if they are rich and guilty than if they are poor and innocent,Where do we stand as nation if mediocrity and negligence of duty is the sign of leadership, where do we stand where the paranoia of the superrich and superpowerful drives national decisions and policies,Where do we go if corruption, crime, rape, insecurity and distrust drives our day to day activities. So many questions you might say.Like a leader once said ”Nigeria, what a people, what a nation”

Therefore if we are to make a switch to meaning then we must know that sustainable development requires deep, transformation in our Political, economic, social, cultural, and Value systems. We need new ways of understanding our nation, and we need new tools to help us deal with tumultuous changes and an uncertain future. Therefore just like Abraham Lincoln said during his speech at the second annual meeting of congress Dec 1862 ”The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present, the occasion is piles high with difficulty and we must rise with the occasion”,as the case is new so we must also think anew. That’s our call as a nation, that’s a call as people.Like i have rightly said ”we are not Tribes manifesting themselves as a nation,we are a nation manifesting itself as tribes”.

Therefore i posit all we need is a man,one who will not lose his identity in a crowd, one whose convictions far outweighs his fear, one who is well balanced, one who is not a system fit,one who mixes common sense with his theories, one who prefers substance to show, one whom the spoils of power cannot distract, one with a strong mind, great heart and ready hands. The good news is that man is you.

We form the future of this nation and we must fight for posterity, but that won’t happen if we do not return to Meaning across all aspect of our life as a nation and people.
